At the York and Area lodges Charity Presentation evening held in November last year at the Masonic Hall in St. Saviougate York the Immediate Past Master of Beacon Lodge, W. Bro. Brian Gunson, presented a cheque for £150.00 to the Lord Mayor of York, Councillor Ian Gillies, in support of York Against Cancer’s Mini Bus appeal. The charity is one of the Lord Mayor’s and Sherriff’s Charities for their year in office.
Beacon Lodge subsequently submitted a Grant Application to the Provincial Grand Charity asking them to consider further support for the Mini Bus appeal. The application was successful and a further £300.00 was presented by W. Bro. Ivor Loney, Charity Steward of the lodge, on behalf of the Provincial Grand Charity to Mrs Pat Leveson, a representative for the Charity, making a total donation of £450.00.
Accompanying the Charity Steward were two other members of Beacon Lodge W. Bro’s. Brian Penter and Derek Boothroyd. W. Bro Keith Bell, Area Representative of the Prov. Grand Charity, assisted at the presentation.
The new mini bus is for the exclusive use of cancer patients from York and surrounding area who are receiving radiotherapy treatment at Leeds. The service is free of charge. The charity understand that going to treatment can be daunting and tiring and it is not appealing to drive oneself and have the added worry with regard to parking. The charity always does their best to fit in with appointment times, regardless of the weather and traffic and liaise with the hospital. They ensure that patient’s journeys are made as easy as possible during a difficult time.
